The Exotic Wood Knitting Needle Sampler Set features four beautiful
exotic woods, in
10 inch
length sizes 7, 8, 9 and 10. The set comes
wrapped in a suede leather case. This would make a wonderful
gift for that ‘nutty’
knitter on your list or for yourself - you’re
probably an avid knitter or you wouldn’t be looking at
this.
I’m so pleased with these knitting needles that
I’ll refund the price (when you return the knitting needles)
if you are not pleased with your purchase.
These needles are made by a ‘medium’ sized old guy
in Seeley Lake, Montana on a lathe that’s probably 50 years
old (can’t afford a new one) in a shop with
a leaky roof. All this said, it’s the largest and
best knitting needle
‘factory’ in Montana. Each knitting
needle being made individually by hand guarantees that no two will be
exactly alike,
similar but not alike.
This all started a couple of years ago when my wife finally convinced
me I should try making wood knitting needles for her yarn shop (Books,
Yarn &
More) in Seeley Lake, Montana. (It’s a nice place
to visit if you’re in the
‘vicinity’ - that includes the western states or
Canada).
Did I mention that we have shipped knitting needles to discerning
knitters in Japan, Australia and the UK as well as here in the
states?
In the past I limited my ‘production’ to Birch,
Curly Maple & Bloodwood (Cardinal), but there are so many
beautiful wood choices out there I wanted to introduce a
few of the best (my opinion). I will attempt to describe them
as best I can. Remember,
photos are great but they don’t do them justice.

Size #7 comes in the Bloodwood (Cardinal) - this is a very hard wood -
almost as hard as Ebony. How hard is Ebony you ask?
About as hard as wood gets.
Has a rich, deep red color with some subtle streaking. Very
consistent one piece to another. This wood comes from
Brazil and is fairly pricey.

Size #8 is made from ‘Cocobolo’ wood which comes
from Nicaragua and Costa Rica. The colors vary considerably
from one piece to the next but is a
beautiful mix of reds, browns and orange with some almost white mixed
in - don’t expect a
lot of this, though, it’s mostly darker colors.
This wood is also very hard and durable, also
pricey.

The Size #9 is made from ‘Zebra’ wood which comes
from South America and Africa. The name is slightly
misleading in that the colors are not black and
white like a zebra but a very dark brown and tan striping.
Shows very
nicely. I took a survey in our store and this was the
favorite of many. It’s not quite as hard as the
other woods in the set but still a very hard wood. This wood
is pricey, too.

The Size #10 is made from Tulip wood. Tulip wood comes from
Brazil and I suspect from all indications may be hard to obtain a good
supply. This is my
favorite and sort of what started this project, when someone gave me a
sample to try.
It’s very expensive (it’s hard to get) but worth
the effort. Dark pinkish or red striping on a cream
colored base - again, photos won’t do them justice.
Tulip wood is very hard and durable -
you’ll like them.
I think you will really be impressed with these beautiful needles.
This Knitting Needle Sampler Set comes in a dark brown, suede
knitting needle holder case.
The knitting needles in this set comes in
10 inch length -
other lengths available upon request.
