16" circular # 6 or # 7 or size for gauge
1 set of double pointed needles to match
1 darning needle
Markers
Gauge:
4.5 sts=1"
Instructions:
Using 16" needle, cast on 90 (96,102) sts (stitches).
Join and work in the round being careful not to twist work.
Place marker here to note beginning of round.
Work k1, p1 until ribbing has reached 1 inch. (or until desired ribbing length has been reached)
Work in stocking stitch (knit every round) until hat has reached 5 /12".
At this point you can put the hat on your head and get a basic idea of how long it will be, following this step you will be working decrease stitches which will cover the top of your head. So, if you want a longer or shorter beanie, you can stop at 5 1/2 inches or if you want it longer work to 6 or 6 1/2 inches before starting decrease rounds.
For top decrease:
Round 1: *k 13(14, 15), k2tog (together), repeat from * 84 (90, 96)sts
Round 2: k
Round 3: *k 12 (13, 14), k2tog, repeat from * 78 (84, 90)sts
Round 4: k
Round 5: *k 11 (12, 13), k2tog, repeat from * 72 (78, 84)
Round 6: k
Continue in this manner until 48 sts remain, then decrease every round until 6 sts remain.
Cut yarn and draw through last sts....fasten off. Weave all cut ends into hat.
